Low-smoke building wire is often specified with a short suffix that deserves careful reading. THW-2-LS and THHW-LS are familiar Mexican-market designations, but LS does not mean halogen-free. Importers should match the complete designation, construction and destination requirements before treating different offers as equivalent.

Inside the cable

The selected Viakon reference uses a stranded copper conductor with a formulated PVC insulation system for heat, moisture and low-smoke performance. It is a single insulated conductor, without an assumed nylon skin, overall multicore jacket or armour. The material system differs from a halogen-free polyolefin wire. Conductor stranding, nominal wall and outside diameter must be taken from the selected size and technical specification.

Where it is used

Typical enquiries concern low-voltage power and lighting distribution in residential, commercial and industrial buildings. The destination’s electrical installation and product requirements determine the appropriate specification. A Mexican-market requirement should not be presented as automatically valid throughout Latin America; buyers should name the destination country and project standards explicitly.

Ratings and selection points

The chosen manufacturer reference is dual-designated and publishes a 600 V, 90°C/90°C construction. Those values describe that documented reference, not every wire carrying a similar abbreviation. Keep the full marking and tests together. Low smoke, flame behaviour and halogen content are separate properties. PVC contains chlorine, so an LS PVC product must not be marketed as LSZH solely from its smoke designation.

A clearer factory RFQ

For a Mexico-market stock order, specify the exact THW-2-LS/THHW-LS designation or required individual rating, copper size, strand construction, colours and packing lengths. Include voltage, temperature and smoke-performance requirements, with the applicable destination documents. Request the proposed product legend and sample label before confirming the purchase specification.

Compare the TGS THW-2-LS / THHW-LS configurations for the available reference size tables. State the required conductor resistance, nominal dimensions, test documents and marking for the exact order. Reference tables and illustrations guide the enquiry; the agreed drawing and approved specification define production.

Manufacturing in Vietnam with TGS

TGS Cable Industrial is a large manufacturing group producing wire and cable in Vietnam. The group has served Costco, Walmart, Target and many other customers for more than five years. That company-wide experience informs our work with importers, distributors and retail supply programmes. For your THW-2-LS / THHW-LS enquiry, our factory team reviews the construction, destination requirements, quantities and packing before confirming the order.

Frequently asked questions

Does LS mean zero halogen?

No. Low-smoke PVC and halogen-free materials are different specifications. A zero-halogen claim needs the appropriate material construction and test evidence.

Can Mexican documentation cover every Latin American destination?

Do not assume so. The importer must identify the destination and verify the applicable product and installation requirements.

Technical references

Manufacturer references explain the representative cable family and construction. They do not certify a TGS product. The agreed order drawing, product marking and applicable approval documents define the supplied cable.
