An outdoor circuit asks more of a jacket than an indoor branch run. UF-B is an underground feeder and branch-circuit family, and its closely filled construction is a useful visual distinction from loosely assembled indoor cable. For sourcing, that distinction must be backed by the selected product rating.

Inside the cable

The representative copper UF-B construction has individually insulated circuit conductors and, where specified, a bare grounding conductor within a substantial overall PVC covering. The jacket material closely fills the spaces around the conductors. It is not simply an NM-B assembly placed inside a hollow tube. Solid or stranded conductors, core count and grounding size depend on the ordered configuration; the drawing should show them separately.

Where it is used

Typical uses include supplies to outdoor lighting, pumps and other permitted loads fed from a building distribution point. Suitable UF-B products can be installed underground, including direct burial, under the applicable wiring method. A project still needs review of route depth, mechanical protection, entries and exposure; the cable name does not settle these installation decisions.

Ratings and selection points

The referenced UF-B family is 600 V. Its indoor branch-circuit ampacity is limited to the 60°C conductor basis despite higher-rated conductor insulation. Moisture resistance and direct-burial suitability do not imply unlimited immersion, chemical resistance or protection against digging damage. For long outdoor runs, an engineer should also evaluate voltage drop and the load characteristics rather than select cable only from a nominal ampacity table.

A clearer factory RFQ

A pump-supply RFQ should identify size and number of insulated conductors, ground requirement, route length and installation environment. Add coil length, quantities and any sunlight or burial documentation required. Specify outer dimensions and proposed markings so the importer can distinguish a genuine UF-B offer from an indoor cable offered by appearance.

Compare the TGS UF-B configurations for the available reference size tables. State the required conductor resistance, nominal dimensions, test documents and marking for the exact order. Reference tables and illustrations guide the enquiry; the agreed drawing and approved specification define production.

Manufacturing in Vietnam with TGS

TGS Cable Industrial is a large manufacturing group producing wire and cable in Vietnam. The group has served Costco, Walmart, Target and many other customers for more than five years. That company-wide experience informs our work with importers, distributors and retail supply programmes. For your UF-B enquiry, our factory team reviews the construction, destination requirements, quantities and packing before confirming the order.

Frequently asked questions

What is the practical difference between NM-B and UF-B?

NM-B is for dry-location wiring. UF-B is an underground-feeder family whose suitable constructions support wet and direct-burial applications; their jacket structures and permitted uses differ.

Does direct-burial cable need mechanical protection?

It may. Burial depth and protection depend on the installation and governing rules. A direct-burial designation does not remove those requirements.
