SEU makes its neutral part of the cable’s outer conductor arrangement. That compact structure is useful in permitted service wiring, but it also makes the drawing especially important. An oval jacket by itself cannot show whether a proposed service cable fits the buyer’s neutral and grounding requirements.

Inside the cable

A representative copper SEU assembly contains two insulated stranded circuit conductors surrounded by a concentric layer of bare neutral strands, reinforcement material and a grey PVC overall jacket. The neutral strands lie around the insulated pair; they are not an aluminium foil screen or a woven shielding braid. Conductor material, individual leg sizes and equivalent neutral area must be established for the selected construction.

Where it is used

SEU is associated with permitted service connections involving the service drop, meter equipment and main distribution. Its use must be evaluated for the actual service arrangement. A feeder requiring a separately insulated neutral and separate equipment ground should not receive SEU simply because its phase conductor sizes resemble a suitable SER assembly.

Ratings and selection points

SEU is not suitable for underground installation, including an underground conduit route. The concentric bare conductor arrangement must also be checked against the system’s neutral and grounding requirements. Do not equate neutral area with the diameter of one visible strand, and do not count the surrounding strands as several independently usable circuit conductors. Request total neutral construction and conductor resistance in the specification review.

A clearer factory RFQ

A service-cable enquiry should identify both insulated leg sizes, total concentric-neutral requirement, conductor metal and overall dimensions. Add the above-ground route, voltage, reel length and quantities. A cross-sectional drawing should be part of the quotation comparison, especially if an alternative service-cable style is proposed.

Compare the TGS SEU configurations for the available reference size tables. State the required conductor resistance, nominal dimensions, test documents and marking for the exact order. Reference tables and illustrations guide the enquiry; the agreed drawing and approved specification define production.

Manufacturing in Vietnam with TGS

TGS Cable Industrial is a large manufacturing group producing wire and cable in Vietnam. The group has served Costco, Walmart, Target and many other customers for more than five years. That company-wide experience informs our work with importers, distributors and retail supply programmes. For your SEU enquiry, our factory team reviews the construction, destination requirements, quantities and packing before confirming the order.

Frequently asked questions

Is the concentric bare layer a shield?

In the SEU construction described here it is the neutral conductor arrangement, not an electromagnetic foil or braid shield. Its electrical role must follow the approved system design.

Can SEU replace a four-path SER feeder?

Do not assume so. The required separation of neutral and equipment grounding conductors must be checked against the actual installation and cable construction.

Manufacturer references explain the representative cable family and construction. They do not certify a TGS product. The agreed order drawing, product marking and applicable approval documents define the supplied cable.
