A service-cable quotation becomes useful only when phase, neutral and ground are clearly separated. SER is a round service-entrance cable family used for permitted above-ground distribution. Buyers should specify the full conductor set rather than assume that every round grey cable has the same electrical arrangement.

Inside the cable

The representative copper SER assembly has three insulated stranded conductors plus a separate bare grounding conductor, reinforcement or binder material and an overall grey PVC jacket. Other conductor combinations and aluminium products exist. The separate bare conductor distinguishes this layout from the concentric-neutral construction of SEU. Insulated neutral and ground sizes should be written explicitly on the drawing and the purchase order.

Where it is used

SER is used in permitted service-entrance arrangements and feeder applications between suitable distribution equipment. Importers serving electrical wholesalers may need several phase/neutral/ground combinations rather than a single size range. The designer must determine how neutral and grounding are handled for the system and the point of installation; the cable name does not determine those connections.

Ratings and selection points

SE cable is not an underground cable, including when the buried section is inside conduit. An outdoor-capable jacket should not be confused with underground permission. Conductor insulation ratings also do not override terminal limits or installation requirements. For larger sizes, confirm reel dimensions, cable bend limits and handling weight, since a technically suitable assembly can still be inconvenient for the customer’s equipment or delivery site.

A clearer factory RFQ

For a panel-feeder enquiry, list every insulated conductor size and the separate grounding conductor size, copper or aluminium, voltage and reel length. State that the intended route is above ground and identify environmental exposure. Ask for the drawing, print legend and destination documents for that exact SER construction.

Compare the TGS SER configurations for the available reference size tables. State the required conductor resistance, nominal dimensions, test documents and marking for the exact order. Reference tables and illustrations guide the enquiry; the agreed drawing and approved specification define production.

Manufacturing in Vietnam with TGS

TGS Cable Industrial is a large manufacturing group producing wire and cable in Vietnam. The group has served Costco, Walmart, Target and many other customers for more than five years. That company-wide experience informs our work with importers, distributors and retail supply programmes. For your SER enquiry, our factory team reviews the construction, destination requirements, quantities and packing before confirming the order.

Frequently asked questions

What distinguishes SER from SEU?

SER normally has a round assembly with separately defined conductors, while SEU commonly has two insulated conductors and concentric bare neutral strands in a flat or oval assembly.

Can SER run underground inside a conduit?

No. The ordinary SE cable application described here excludes underground installation even when enclosed in conduit. Choose a suitable underground-rated alternative.

Technical references

Manufacturer references explain the representative cable family and construction. They do not certify a TGS product. The agreed order drawing, product marking and applicable approval documents define the supplied cable.
