A black jacket can make underground cable easy to recognize in stock, but colour is not the specification. NMWU is a Canadian nonmetallic cable family for wet and underground applications. Its temperature category is a particularly important distinction when a buyer also stocks NMD90.

Inside the cable

The selected copper NMWU reference contains PVC-insulated, nylon-covered circuit conductors and a bare bonding conductor in an overall black PVC construction. In the representative flat cable, the outer compound closely surrounds the conductor arrangement. It is not a rubber portable cord and has no metallic armour. Insulated conductor count, bond size and the complete cable profile must be checked for every ordered configuration.

Where it is used

NMWU is relevant to wet-location and permitted direct-burial branch-circuit enquiries in the Canadian market. Buyers may be sourcing for outdoor loads, outbuildings or other routes where an indoor-only cable is unsuitable. The route needs to be defined from the distribution point to the load, including entries, exposed sections and required protection.

Ratings and selection points

The manufacturer reference used here is 300 V and 60°C, not a 90°C cable. Do not transfer NMD90’s temperature designation or a neighbouring table’s ampacity to it. Burial suitability also does not remove local depth, protection or entry requirements. Review low-temperature handling separately from operating temperature, especially for shipments destined for cold-weather installation. Any sunlight, flame or other performance claim must be supported by the exact product.

A clearer factory RFQ

For a Canadian underground-cable order, list AWG, number of insulated conductors and bonding-wire size, then state the required 300 V/60°C construction or other documented specification. Include coil lengths, quantities and installation environment. Request actual finished dimensions so connectors and packaging are selected for the correct flat profile.

Compare the TGS NMWU configurations for the available reference size tables. State the required conductor resistance, nominal dimensions, test documents and marking for the exact order. Reference tables and illustrations guide the enquiry; the agreed drawing and approved specification define production.

Manufacturing in Vietnam with TGS

TGS Cable Industrial is a large manufacturing group producing wire and cable in Vietnam. The group has served Costco, Walmart, Target and many other customers for more than five years. That company-wide experience informs our work with importers, distributors and retail supply programmes. For your NMWU enquiry, our factory team reviews the construction, destination requirements, quantities and packing before confirming the order.

Frequently asked questions

Is NMWU simply black NMD90?

No. The families have different environmental and temperature requirements. The selected NMWU reference is a 300 V, 60°C construction.

Can a buyer use a 90°C ampacity column for this NMWU?

Not for the 60°C reference described here. Circuit selection must use the actual cable rating, installation rules and any applicable limitations.
