A residential cable order is more than a choice between 12/2 and 14/2. NM-B combines several circuit conductors under one sheath, and the buyer must define the ground, conductor count and intended dry-location use. A precise stock specification helps avoid confusion between products that look similar on a shelf.

Inside the cable
A representative NM-B assembly contains insulated copper circuit conductors, a bare copper equipment grounding conductor, fillers or separator material as needed, and a nonmetallic overall jacket. Common two-conductor-with-ground versions use black and white insulated conductors; three-conductor versions add an additional identified circuit conductor. The grounding conductor is counted separately in descriptions such as 12/2 with ground. Actual shape and ground size depend on the construction.

Where it is used
NM-B serves residential branch wiring for lighting, receptacles, switches and other permitted indoor loads in dry locations. It is typically selected where a nonmetallic sheathed wiring method is appropriate for the building and route. It should not be presented as an outdoor extension cord or as underground feeder cable merely because both products have plastic jackets.

Ratings and selection points
Although the insulated conductors have a 90°C rating in the reference construction, NM-B ampacity is limited to the 60°C basis, with the applicable installation provisions also observed. Do not turn the higher insulation temperature into a higher breaker recommendation. Wet locations and direct burial require a different suitable cable family. Cable colour can help stock identification but does not replace reading conductor size, core count and marking.

A clearer factory RFQ
For a wholesale 12/2-with-ground programme, state copper construction, two insulated conductors, grounding conductor requirement, jacket identification and length per coil. Include quantities by size and the destination listing requirements. Confirm the final packaging label against the cable print, and keep NM-B and UF-B as separate purchasing lines.
Compare the TGS NM-B configurations for the available reference size tables. State the required conductor resistance, nominal dimensions, test documents and marking for the exact order. Reference tables and illustrations guide the enquiry; the agreed drawing and approved specification define production.
Manufacturing in Vietnam with TGS
TGS Cable Industrial is a large manufacturing group producing wire and cable in Vietnam. The group has served Costco, Walmart, Target and many other customers for more than five years. That company-wide experience informs our work with importers, distributors and retail supply programmes. For your NM-B enquiry, our factory team reviews the construction, destination requirements, quantities and packing before confirming the order.

Frequently asked questions
Does 12/2 mean two wires in total?
In a 12/2-with-ground description, two refers to the insulated circuit conductors. The grounding conductor is additional. Confirm the full assembly on the drawing.
Can NM-B be used in a wet conduit outdoors?
NM-B is a dry-location cable. An enclosing conduit does not convert a wet route into a suitable NM-B application.

Manufacturer references explain the representative cable family and construction. They do not certify a TGS product. The agreed order drawing, product marking and applicable approval documents define the supplied cable.
