Metal-clad cable can bring the conductors and mechanical protection to a project as one assembly. For an importer, however, the letters MC do not define every grounding system, jacket or environmental rating. A successful factory order starts with the complete construction rather than an armour photograph.

Inside the cable

A common branch-circuit MC reference contains insulated copper circuit conductors and a green insulated equipment grounding conductor beneath binder tape and interlocked metal armour. Other listed MC constructions use different grounding arrangements. The helical interlocked strip is not a woven wire braid. Conductor material, insulation system, armour metal and any overall jacket must be tied to the selected reference and size.

Where it is used

MC enquiries commonly cover commercial lighting, branch circuits, feeders and industrial wiring where a metal-clad method is permitted. A factory-built assembly can help a distributor organise stock around complete conductor sets. Buyers supplying offices, warehouses or plant projects should distinguish ordinary branch-circuit MC from healthcare, fire-alarm or other specialized constructions that have additional requirements.

Ratings and selection points

Standard interlocked armour should not be assumed to provide the equipment grounding path by itself. The selected grounding system and compatible connectors are essential. Bare armour also does not automatically establish wet-location or underground suitability. Jacketed versions and particular listings support different applications. Review bending radius, support, armour termination and pulling limits with the actual cable data rather than with a generic flexible-conduit specification.

A clearer factory RFQ

For 12 AWG branch-circuit MC, state two insulated circuit conductors plus the required grounding conductor, insulation colours, armour material and length per reel. Identify whether the route is dry, wet or requires a jacket. Ask for a construction drawing and proposed marking for that exact assembly before comparing factory prices.

Compare the TGS MC configurations for the available reference size tables. State the required conductor resistance, nominal dimensions, test documents and marking for the exact order. Reference tables and illustrations guide the enquiry; the agreed drawing and approved specification define production.

Manufacturing in Vietnam with TGS

TGS Cable Industrial is a large manufacturing group producing wire and cable in Vietnam. The group has served Costco, Walmart, Target and many other customers for more than five years. That company-wide experience informs our work with importers, distributors and retail supply programmes. For your MC enquiry, our factory team reviews the construction, destination requirements, quantities and packing before confirming the order.

Frequently asked questions

Is MC cable the same as AC cable?

No. Their grounding constructions and applicable product requirements differ. A silver interlocked exterior can look similar while the internal bonding arrangement is different.

Does every MC cable have a green ground?

No. The green insulated EGC is the representative branch-circuit construction shown here. Other approved MC grounding systems exist and require their own documentation.

Technical references

Manufacturer references explain the representative cable family and construction. They do not certify a TGS product. The agreed order drawing, product marking and applicable approval documents define the supplied cable.
