Solar cable lives with sunlight, heat and long service exposure, while connector fit depends on small dimensional details. A PV Wire enquiry therefore needs more than a red-or-black colour choice. For North American sourcing, identify the actual photovoltaic-wire designation and the project’s voltage and documentation requirements.

Inside the cable

The selected Southwire PV Wire reference uses a stranded bare-copper conductor with a substantial cross-linked polyethylene insulation layer. Other photovoltaic products use tinned copper or separate insulation and sheath layers. Those are different constructions, not features that can be mixed into one drawing. The article imagery follows the selected single-layer XLPE reference; the approved TGS order drawing must establish the exact supplied version.

Where it is used

PV Wire is used for appropriate interconnection wiring in photovoltaic systems, including panel and array-related DC routes within its rating. Solar EPC contractors, system integrators and distributors may need size-specific bulk reels or leads prepared for a defined connector system. Route length, system voltage, ambient heat and installation method belong in the engineering brief.

Ratings and selection points

UL 4703 is the relevant photovoltaic-wire standard to specify where required; a family name does not prove a TGS listing. USE-2 and European H1Z2Z2-K designations do not automatically establish the same approval. Direct burial and other additional uses require the appropriate marking. Connector compatibility depends on conductor construction, outside diameter and the connector manufacturer’s approved range, not merely nominal cross-section or a familiar connector shape.

A clearer factory RFQ

A solar order should identify AWG or mm², conductor metal, required PV Wire voltage and documentation, insulation construction, red/black split and reel length. For prepared leads, include connector model, approved cable diameter range, crimp requirements and finished tests. State any buried or continuously wet route explicitly for review.

Compare the TGS PV Wire configurations for the available reference size tables. State the required conductor resistance, nominal dimensions, test documents and marking for the exact order. Reference tables and illustrations guide the enquiry; the agreed drawing and approved specification define production.

Manufacturing in Vietnam with TGS

TGS Cable Industrial is a large manufacturing group producing wire and cable in Vietnam. The group has served Costco, Walmart, Target and many other customers for more than five years. That company-wide experience informs our work with importers, distributors and retail supply programmes. For your PV Wire enquiry, our factory team reviews the construction, destination requirements, quantities and packing before confirming the order.

Explore our Vietnam factory production capability, or send your cable specification to discuss a factory quotation. Product approvals and customer-specific requirements are reviewed for the selected construction and programme.

Frequently asked questions

Is PV Wire always tinned copper with two polymer layers?

No. The primary reference selected here uses bare copper and a single XLPE layer. Other approved photovoltaic constructions differ and must be specified individually.

Does an EN 50618 cable automatically have UL 4703 approval?

No. These are different approval frameworks. Request the exact documentation required by the destination and project.

Technical references

Manufacturer references explain the representative cable family and construction. They do not certify a TGS product. The agreed order drawing, product marking and applicable approval documents define the supplied cable.
